David is a Chartered Accountant and Tax Agent of over 15 years standing, having commenced his career in the audit division of Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co., followed by several years in the insolvency division of Duesburys.
He then held positions as Financial Controller of a group of public companies in the real estate and franchise services industry, Director of the trustee of a multi-employer superannuation fund and Finance Director of a public company developing an advanced method for the treatment and disposal of industrial waste (interestingly including electric arc furnace dust!).

Daryl Purdie, Senior Process Engineer, Intec Envirometals Pty Ltd
B.Sc. Metallurgical Engineering, Queens University, Kingston, Canada.
Mr Purdie has more than twenty five years experience as a process engineer with various Canadian consultancy firms, such as Davy Canada, HG Engineering (now WorleyParsons HGE) and most recently, ACSI.
Mr Purdie has worked on various hydrometallurgical projects worldwide for such international mining organisations, such as Vale Inco, Kennecott, Phelps Dodge, BHP, Umicore as well as Intec. Mr Purdie’s experience ranges from flow sheet design, test work, development of process mass and heat balances, and equipment selection through to commissioning and plant start-up.
During his tenure with H.G. Engineering, Mr Purdie was able to develop a high level of expertise in the design of Tetra HDS (High Density Solids) precipitation circuits. Properly designed, HDS precipitation circuits can result in significant capital and operating cost savings.
As Senior Process Engineer, Mr Purdie’s responsibilities include assisting with the engineering of new projects and acting as a liaison between Intec and engineering consultancy firms.
Dave Sammut, Corporate Development Manager
BSc (Hons) Ind. Chem, MBT (UNSW)
Dave Sammut has 16 years of experience in the minerals processing, environmental and waste industries. Of this, he has spent a total of 11 years with Intec, starting as a plant operator in Intec’s 1995 Intec Copper Process pilot plant. After serving Intec as a scientist and laboratory manager for almost six years at the start of his career, Dave completed a Masters degree in Business and Technology, which was specifically tailored to advance skills relevant to his work in industry. He spent several years to broadening his experience in various areas of recruitment, environmental and commodities research consulting in Australia and Canada, including running his own ‘think tank’ technical and environmental consulting business for clients in both countries.
Dave returned to Intec in 2006 as part of its corporate team. With both business and technical skills, Dave serves the company as a broad-spectrum ‘generalist’, contributing across the full breadth of Intec’s corporate activities. He now acts as Intec’s primary face for investor, government and client relations, conducts most of the company’s marketing activities, contributes to the environmental management of the company, and is generally Intec’s first point of contact for incoming project opportunity enquiries.

Mr Randall has 18 years' experience in the mining industry, having been involved in several CIP/CIL gold projects and a number of heavy earthmoving companies. He joined Intec in 1998 as a fitter on the demonstration plant at St Peters, becoming Workshop Manager in 1999. He currently manages the operations of the Intec Envirometals Research Facility and Demonstration Plant. His qualifications in the fields of Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design and Engineering Drafting lend themselves well to designing and fabricating specialised equipment to meet the requirements of Intec's research laboratory. Adam also works with the design and engineering team to produce CAD drawings for commercialisation of the process, and provides support in the area of information technology.
Dr Andrew Tong, Head of Technology
Ph.D (Syd) B.Sc (Hons)
Dr Tong joined Intec early in 2004, after completing a PhD and with extensive research chemistry experience, with particular emphasis on analytical inorganic topics and the numerous techniques for the characterisation of solids.
Within Intec, Andrew has worked principally on metal recoveries via the Intec Polymetallic Process for Hellyer tailings, including cementation, zinc electrowinning and iron and copper precipitation. This work was funded in part by an Australian Research Council Linkage Grant in conjunction with the University of Sydney's Chemical Engineering Department.
Andrew now manages the Intec Research Laboratory, which provides external clients with scoping testwork, ensures a solid basis for industrial scale processing, and continues to explore the complex chloride chemistry at the heart of the Intec Processes.
In addition to the Intec Polymetallic Process and Intec Gold Process, Andrew is coordinating further work on the Intec Metalliferous Process, which explores the use of chloride leaches on predominantly oxide (rather than sulphide) feeds. Examples of its application Electric Arc Furnace dust and zinc ferrites and nickel laterites.
